Technical Specifications for MapRender3DŽ Lite
Create high resolution 2D or 3D shaded relief maps up to 5,000 x 5,000 pixels.
Render modes: Relief shaded maps can be created using either OpenGL or Bitmap render modes.
3D modeling: 3D relief shaded maps can be interactively rotated and sized. Both orthographic and perspective views are supported.
MapRender3D Settings Box Height data can be exaggerated to enhance 2D and 3D effects.
Lighting: Light position and angle can be set - light colors can be set.
Coloring: Maps can be colored on the basis of height, slope or variability. Solid and two types of gradient fill can be used between any arbitrarily selected heights and colors.
User definable color palettes allows custom color and elevation range hypsographic coloring.
Height data Import: USGS DEM, SDTS DEM, Landform Panorama NTF, RAW, ASCII, GHz PSB.
Bitmap Export: BMP, TGA, PPM, PNG, TIFF, GEOTIFF formats.

Map Projections
MapRender3D Lite will project the DEM data according to the format that the data was generated in. Check the support section of this web site for links to many sites with libraries of DEM as low as 10 and 30 meter resolution for the USA, available free as public domain data, and links to commercial data suppliers for worldwide resources.

Platforms and compatibility
Microsoft Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP. System Requirements: 486 or better processor (Pentium highly recommended), 64 meg RAM, 16 bit color support, 50 meg free disk space (100 Mb or more recommended), CD-ROM drive. Runs on Win simulators on Macintosh.

Availability
MapRender3D Lite is available as a free download. The software is provided as is for private non-commercial use.

Differences between
MR3D Pro and MR3D Lite
The following features are not available on the Lite version:
1) Open GL rendering only
2) No mesh and height data export - image only
3) Scale image
4) Transform image
5) Exponential coloring method
6) "Slope", "Variability" and "Texture"
7) Shading type (Flat, Smooth, No) is now selected automatically depending upon the directional light settings
8) Textures import and drapping are not supported
9) "Light direction" and "Light height" are missing from the settings dialog - only the "on-screen" settings is allowed
10) Worldwide seamless elevation databases, Convert utility and map projection utility are not included
