USA 100 Meter DEM and Convert Utility

Selection - Areas of the USA can be interactively selected.

Operation - The USA DEM database is comprised of the entire United States at 100 meter resolution in seamless DEM format. The database contains the entire 953 one degree by one degree quads equaling 8 Gigabytes of decompressed DEM Data, representing 1.37 billion elevation points. This database is supplied in our proprietary compressed PSB format on two CDR's or on one DVD. For the convenience of our customers we offer the databases packaged in four variations:

Eastern USA (CD) 66º thru 105º West

Western USA (CD) 93º thru 125º West

Eastern and Western USA (two CD's)

Seamless USA (one DVD disc)

The Eastern USA DEM covers 66º thru 105º West while the Western DEM covers 93º thru 125º West, allowing a substantial overlap (13º) to allow most likely extraction needs in the Central USA area. The complete USA DEM coast to coast can be ordered as one seamless database on one DVD; note that you will need at least 800 Mb of free space if you load this datatset to your hard drive. Using the Convert utility, extraction of an area as small as one degree by one degree would yield 1,200 x 1,200 elevation points or pixels when rendered into an image. For MapRender3D, an extraction of a maximum 4 x 5 degrees blocks are recommended. Resulting rendered images may be patched together to provide wider area coverage providing projection parameters and color palettes have been coordinated.


USA DEM East (blue) and West (red) database coverage

Projections - Each DEM database is supplied with MapRender® Convert allowing interactive selection of the specified area, defined by upper and lower latitude, and East and West longitude, to be extracted. The following projections are supported, with full parameter selection:
